MAKING SMALL SPACES LOOK AND FEEL BIGGER

What’s that old saying? “It’s not the size that counts?” Here at Tuck we agree wholeheartedly. Of all of the conundrums homeowners face, not having enough space is a really big one. Sure, not all homes are built equal, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make your spaces look and feel bigger with a few little tricks of the trade. From the living room, to the kitchen, bathroom and even laundry. Sure, we know by allowing in more light and clearing clutter we can make a room appear slightly more spacious, but what other tips and tricks are there out there? We’ve done the research to make it easier for you to make your small pad feel like a palace.

The lighter the wall, the better

One of the best ways to create that sense of space in the home is paler shades on the walls. The lighter they are the more reflective, as such maximising the effects of natural light. A tip from the experts is to ensure there is little contrast between the different surfaces in the room enabling it to feel more harmonious.

Shelving Concepts & Styles

Floor to ceiling shelving gives a sense of height to a space as it draws the eye upwards. We all know you can never have too much storage. Some of the most cleverly designed homes use a combination of opened and closed shelving. Tip: If you only have closed shelving (and there’s a lot of it) you risk boxing in the space. Plus, the mixing the two styles gives the room more interest.

Don’t forget your floors

Keeping the same type of floors throughout main living areas allows a home to flow. If you are building or renovating and want to go with timber floors go for wider boards, if tiles are your preference, go larger so there are less grout lines. This makes the rooms (kitchens and living rooms in particular) look expansive.

 Mirror, mirror on the wall

Mirrors bounce light around. So, the best place for them to hang is across from a window to reflect the light. Floor length mirrors are also a handy way to make a room appear taller.

Styling with stripes

Sounds strange, yes? But it’s the same concept vertical stripes on clothing, a striped rug will make your room appear longer. Just ensure the stripes run the length of the room for optimal effect.

Hanging bathroom vanities

When it comes to your bathroom these are one of the greatest ways to create the illusion of space. The beauty is, if you find the right one, it can still offer plenty of storage for all of those bathroom items. The range here at Tuck offers all shapes, styles and sizes. From a more petite 600mm to the big guys at 1800mm. If you would prefer something larger, why not check out the gorgeous Timberline Ashton wall hung vanity. A stunning and sleek way to modernise your bathroom, without taking up too much space.

 Leave the bath alone

Chic, contemporary and sophisticated a freestanding bath is bound to be a statement piece in any bathroom, while still allowing the space to remain more open. The hardest part is choosing which model to invest in. There are so many styles and designs. We can’t get enough of the Decina Elinea. Once you’re in, you won’t want to get out.

Laundry storage

If there’s one place we need storage, it’s our laundry. Out of sight, out of mind, right? By being able to hide away appliances, cleaning materials and items and of course the dreaded dirty laundry, we can have a generous looking and feeling laundry. The Timberline modular laundry has one of the greatest cabinet systems we’ve seen. It’s storage galore.
